What should I put in the box besides the cake?

Something that makes them order again. A cake gets eaten in a day. A card sits on the counter for a week.

Four things worth including, and none of them cost much.

  1. A care card. How to store it, how long it keeps, whether it should come out of the fridge before serving. This is genuinely useful, it protects your product from being judged after two days in the wrong place, and it quietly shows you know what you are doing.
  2. A thank-you card. Handwritten if you have time, printed if you do not. One line is plenty. People remember being thanked by a person.
  3. Your details, somewhere permanent. Not just on the box that gets thrown out — on a card they might keep. Business name, how to order, where to find you.
  4. A reason to come back. A small discount code, or simply a line saying what else you make. Most customers only know you for the one thing they bought.

The bakers who grow fastest are rarely the best bakers. They are the ones whose customers know how to order again without hunting for them.
